Mission: My primary mission as a massage therapist and future Feldenkrais Practitioner is to help others achieve pleasurable movement, standing, sitting, and sleeping. Physiologically, taking pleasure from these activities promotes health and wellbeing by increasing mobility, energy, and stamina, which also leads to psychological benefits such as higher levels of concentration, and experiencing greater joy and happiness. Ultimately, I aim to increase my clients' ability to do more and more of what they like doing.
I came to massage through a Shiatsu class I took during my senior year of high school. Looking for something to study after graduating, massage took the front seat for some time, drifting down the list as graduation neared and college became a priority. Nearly a decade later, massage re-surfaced as a career possibility, and I took the opportunity to study at the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts, receiving a quality education from teachers I found both knowledgeable and inspiring.
Working full-time and going to school evenings and weekends left me with one day per week, Sunday, on which I could practice on my "clients." I would see between 3 and 5 people on Sundays, modifying and improving my techniques to develop my personal style as a therapist. I was also able to sneak in a Neuromuscular Therapy module class to begin studying a subtle yet powerful approach to serious relief, but following graduation, I chose to pursue Feldenkrais Practitioner Training first.
I actually came by the Feldenkrais Method before massage, when I was 15 and on retreat with my parents and sister. I still remember lying on the floor for an Awareness Through Movement (ATM) class, working through the "Pelvic Clock" lesson for the first time. I took care to remember the name "Feldenkrais" so that I could return to it and study it properly someday. That someday came in November 2007, when I joined the Berkeley VI class of Feldenkrais Resources. I will be traveling to Berkeley six times per year to study the Feldenkrais Method, which includes learning to teach Awareness Through Movement classes (starting in June 2009), and Functional Integration (June 2011).
I love my work, and I care about my clients' deeply.
What Evlogia offers me as a holistic wellness center is the opportunity to offer my clients an optimum treatment space in which to receive massage and bodywork (a beautiful, peaceful setting in a convenient location) while subtly marrying the concept of massage with fitness and holistic healthcare. The best outcome for my clients is the capability to do what they choose, which is best supported through adequate nutrition, hydration, exercise, and regular therapeutic treatments to effectively manage the balancing act that is health.
What I bring to Evlogia is the service of a dedicated professional massage therapist and businesswoman. As a bodywork professional, I will never finish learning about the body and its responses to touch and movement, and I bring all of my knowledge and expertise to each session, holding nothing back from my clients. As a businesswoman, I understand that it is my responsibility to promote my services for the good of the community, and that networking within my industry of holistic healthcare is a crucial aspect of effective marketing.
